A monthly minimum sets a minimum amount of eligible fees for a billing period. When those fees fall short, the provider may bill the difference. The agreement determines which fees count toward the minimum.
For example, if the agreed minimum is $25 and $18 of eligible fees count toward it, a $7 minimum adjustment would reach that threshold. This example does not describe every provider’s calculation.
Check three things: the minimum in the agreement, the charges that count toward it, and the adjustment actually billed. Do not assume interchange, assessments and every monthly charge are included in the qualifying total.
Seasonal businesses and low-volume months can make a minimum more noticeable. When comparing offers, include the expected minimum adjustments alongside percentage and transaction fees.
